The China–Tanzania Mobile Surgical Vehicle Community Public‑Health Initiative Officially Launches
2026-05-26
On May 20, 2026, the “China–Tanzania Mobile Surgical Vehicle Community Public‑Health Initiative” was officially launched at Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Chen Mingjian, in attendance. At the event, Tanzania’s first-ever mobile surgical vehicle—manufactured by Guangtai Medical—was simultaneously put into service. The vehicle was jointly donated by the China International Exchange Promotion Association, the Hong Kong Cherish Life Foundation, the Beijing Pinglan Public Welfare Foundation, and the SUKOS KOVA Foundation. With support from institutions such as Fuwai Hospital, it will provide public‑health services—including medical screenings and surgical procedures—to remote local communities, offering a groundbreaking mobile solution to enhance access to healthcare.

At the inauguration ceremony, Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Health, Florence Samizi, highly commended the project. She noted that many Tanzanians have long faced practical challenges such as high transportation costs, long distances to medical facilities, and a shortage of specialist physicians. The deployment of the mobile surgical unit will enable patients to receive timely care locally without having to travel long distances, helping to reduce delays in accessing healthcare and promoting greater equity and accessibility in medical services. Delilah Kimambo, Director of Muhimbili National Hospital, added that the vehicle is equipped with state-of-the-art surgical equipment, capable of performing emergency surgeries and specialized consultations, and will prioritize serving remote areas while also alleviating pressure on referral hospitals and enhancing overall healthcare efficiency.

In the on‑site photos, what is truly moving is the group portrait of all members of the 28th Chinese Medical Team to Tanzania standing side by side with local healthcare workers in front of the mobile operating theater. Behind them, this mobile medical unit—provided by China’s Guangtai—is equipped with a full complement of medical instruments comparable to those found in a standard hospital operating room, enabling it to safely and effectively perform a wide range of surgical procedures. Soon, it will serve as their “steel‑clad comrade” in safeguarding lives, heading deep into the most remote communities of Tanzania. From the workshops of China to the front lines in Africa, we extend our highest respect to the 28th Chinese Medical Team to Tanzania, whose dedication knows no bounds and transcends mountains and seas. We also take great pride in seeing Guangtai’s mobile operating theater play such a vital role in this China–Tanzania health cooperation.

On the day of its inauguration, the Chinese medical team and a team of experts from Fuwai Hospital joined forces with Muhimbili National Hospital to perform the first surgical procedure aboard this mobile operating room, with Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Health, Florence Samizi, in attendance. Lead surgeon Frank Muhamba stated: “This mobile operating room is equipped with all the facilities required in a standard hospital operating suite. We have successfully completed our first surgery, and the results demonstrate that it can deliver high‑quality medical care.”

This surgical vehicle, imbued with Chinese technology and care, will help overcome medical barriers in remote areas by providing on-site screening, emergency surgeries, and other public‑service initiatives, bringing hope for better health right to the doorsteps of Tanzanian families. As early as 2024, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of China–Tanzania diplomatic relations, Guangtai Medical actively responded to the Belt and Road Initiative by signing an agreement at the East African Trade and Logistics Center in Dar es Salaam to support Tanzania’s local healthcare infrastructure. The delivery of this vehicle further underscores the enduring friendship between China and Tanzania.

Looking ahead, Guangtai Medical will continue to collaborate with Chinese medical aid teams and global partners, leveraging mobile medical equipment to expand the reach of health services and harnessing China’s advanced manufacturing to make global healthcare resources more equitable and accessible. In the broader endeavor of jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, Guangtai Medical will persist in delivering professional, system‑based mobile health solutions, injecting greater Chinese expertise into the construction of a community of health for all.
